Vehicle flees fatal accident near Tavistock, driver wanted

Motor vehicle accidents can change lives in a matter of moments. Tragically, accidents do happen, but failing to take responsibility for one's actions when an accident occurs is a serious offence. An unidentified driver is now the subject of a police investigation after allegedly causing a fatal accident and then leaving the scene in rural Ontario recently.

The accident occurred late on August 23, 2016, just west of Tavistock, a small community near Kitchener, Ontario. At 10:50 p.m., a small car attempted to pass a large van on Perth Line 26. Both vehicles were travelling eastbound. The passing maneuver put the small car into the path of a westbound car, which swerved to avoid a collision. The westbound car veered onto the gravel shoulder and lost control before returning to the road where it was struck broadside by the van.

A 26-year old Kitchener man, the driver of the struck vehicle, was taken to hospital, but he died from his injuries. The driver of the van, a 49-year old male from Tavistock, was also taken to hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries before being released. The driver of the eastbound car failed to remain at the scene and is now being sought by Perth County OPP.

If the driver of the vehicle who fled the accident scene is apprehended, there may be charges laid. For the family of the deceased and the other injured party there will likely be insurance claims and court appearances in the future. Though this will be a tough time for all involved, having the assistance of a personal injury law firm can help with all the legal matters that need to be handled.
